Five News Sources
Today, we are fortunate enough to have many ways to find articles and stories discussing various problems and events going on in the world. Having multiple news outlets allows you to gather information from various viewpoints to make your own opinion with the least amount of bias. I find it very difficult to find news outlets that will give me the truth rather than their opinion so, I find it helpful to pick news sources, both conservative and liberal to get a more well-rounded look on things.
1.) The New York Times
The New York Times has to be one of the biggest newspaper publishers in the U.S. The NYT editing team is more left-leaning, focusing on keeping any bad news reports more uplifted and aid towards the bright side of news stories. I really enjoy the true journalistic feel to their articles, none of it feels bias towards a specific party, while they also try and look on the bright side of even the harshest of reports.
2.) BBC
BBC is one of the most renowned global radio broadcast and TV journalism. BBC is the world's oldest national broadcasting services, giving you all the global news reaching over 200 countries and territories. A very frustrating issue in Americas news sources is the push of censorship, you can never get the truth, only what the government wants you to hear. Today, many US foreign policies are so tangled in cooperation with US news media, causing censorship to the public on issues the people should know the truth about.
Today's news stations typically only show news that happens inside our country and the U.s politics, with each stations viewpoint on the topic. The average citizen tends to know very little on foreign relations, not because they choose not to learn about it, but simply because the news stations choose stories that will bring in viewership. The BBC allows us to see everything going on in the U.S and their current international standpoint and relations with other countries. It is also important that we know what is going on in other countries and if there is any conflict arising between other nations.
3.) Foreign Affairs
Foreign Affairs is a bi-monthly magazine that is published by the Council on Foreign Relations. These articles are very informational and in depth stories on exactly what's going on in global affairs. Many top professors and researches of international relations have access to submit their viewpoints on international topics, allows the people to see various viewpoints from the top scholars in the world.
4.) The Atlantic
The Atlantic is a very good source because it not only keeps you informed on politics, but also covers foreign affairs, science, technology, business, culture, and literature. The Atlantic has been around for over 164 years, and still, today has over half a million subscribers and brings in over 47.5 million monthly visits. The Atlantic is a perfect source to stay up to date on every subject going on in not only your country but the whole world.
The Atlantic is a firmly liberal publication, more voicing the views of America's upper-middle-class rather than the working class. I enjoy reading their articles because their editorial team is very well-spoken and well-sourced. There is very little bias in their articles, giving you the truth rather than an "I'm right you're wrong" viewpoint.
5.) The Wall Street Journal
WSJ is another one of my favorite news sites that is at the top of the journalist industry along with NYT. Being a Business major myself, I like the business background of WSJ, and all the big stories going on in the business world. WSJ's editorial team uses a more conservative outlook on business and general news, with even their head speechwriters and strategist being Republicans. I love the WSJ because they have a very unique sense of writing style and a very good way of articulating news stories on paper.
You never see a WSJ journalist firing shots at politicians or the President because, unlike other media sources, WSJ tells the news as it is, and tends to steer away from any antagonistic stories. They always explain the who, what, when, where, and whys of stories and rarely have emotion-driven articles. Finding a media source that is trustworthy is difficult, but WSJ is indeed a very reliable source, being backed up by several Pulitzer Prizes and awards for its fine journalism.
