Plessy V. Ferguson

As a defendant of the Plessy laws I think I can speak for myself and my group when we say the case on Plessy V. Ferguson is a very simple matter. During the beginning of 1892, Mr. Ferguson, a mixed-racial man from New Orleans, knowingly and purposely violated Louisiana's Separate Car Act which permits any railroad accommodations of both whites and nonwhites. How dare he come forward today with the argument that these laws are “unconstitutional”, the same document America's very own founding fathers built this country from the ground up, ahreiring to the constitution.

Not only is Mr. Ferguson disrespecting our country's founding fathers by questioning their documents, but most importantly he is questioning God, and His own beliefs and morals. It says it in the Bible, in paper and ink, words written down from Jesus disciples, God’s outlook on slavery and segregation and how even during Jesus time, they too had segregation of colored. No where is the Bible does God say “There shall be no slavery” or “segregation of the colors is bad”, in fact, the Bible is flooded with stories of slave owners and how the slaves couldn't eat or sleep at the same places as their masters. In the book  Ephesians 6:5-8 where Paul states, “Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ”. Paul is telling the slaves and colored people to be obedient to their own, their owners being white folks who have more power than they do. There's even a point where Paul himself returns a runaway slave. Although, we are at a time where slavery is no longer, we still need to hold the same ideologies, that a person of color shall not be higher or equal to a white man.

It is very simple, Mr. Ferguson broke a law, whether it was knowingly or by accident, it is a law that is in fact Constitutional. The non white people have railroads, bathrooms, restaurants that are assigned to them, so why does he decide to use a whites only railroad? This shouldn't be a slap on the wrist, we need to teach them a lesson, use him as an example to send a message out to any others who dare violate the law, show them that we take things seriously. Here in the Church, we preach a strict interpretation of the Bible, telling Christians that the only way to Heaven and eternal life with Christ was to live a life according to Biblical standards. Many of my fellow Christians had slaves of our own until the abolishment in 1865. We did it because it was what Christ gave us, God has blessed us with a culture of servants, and as long as we follow him and preach his word, we will continue to be blessed with colored folks as servants for generations to come. This however, does not apply to the colored, and like Paul said in the Bible, as long as they obey their masters, we will treat them kindly, because in the end we all share the same Heavenly master.
